What is the picture and sound quality at Pathé Thuis?

What is the difference between SD & HD?
SD stands for Standard Definition and HD stands for High Definition.

HD films have a higher resolution than SD films. Which means the bit rate (number of bits/second) is higher for HD films compared to SD films. The average bit rate is 50 Mbits.

 

SD/HD & platforms
We try to offer both SD and HD on as many platforms as possible, this depends on agreements with the studios. If a film is not available in both qualities, it is possible that we do not have the rights.

 

Adaptive streaming
Pathé Thuis uses adaptive streaming. This means that you get the best quality of the resolution you have chosen, but that does depend on your internet connection. If you notice that the quality of the film is decreasing, your connection may not be stable or strong enough. This way, we want to prevent your film from buffering.

 

How do I change the SD/HD price on my phone or tablet?

On your phone, a purchase is set to HD films by default. If you prefer to rent or buy the SD version, you can of course switch versions.

2. You will see ‘Rent for X’ and ‘Buy for X’, below is a small text with the option ‘Watch in SD’ and ‘I have a gift code’. Click on ‘Watch in SD’

 

Stereo and 5.1. sound
At the moment, most Pathé Thuis films have stereo sound. New films are constantly being added to the Pathé Thuis service that have 5.1. sound. You can recognise these films by the special label on the product page, next to the Kijkwijzer icons. If a film does not have this label, it only has stereo sound.

 

Dutch or English spoken (children’s) films
Many children’s and/or animated films are offered in two languages. The original version is described with (OV) behind the title or the original title. This version is often subtitled in Dutch.

There is also usually a Dutch spoken version of the film. You can recognize this by 'Title' + (NL) or a title translated into Dutch. This film does not have subtitles.

You cannot switch languages ​​after renting or buying a film. So make sure you rent or buy the right version.
