How does Pathé Thuis work on a laptop or PC?

You can also play films via the browser on a laptop or desktop, via the most common browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge. You cannot play films via Internet Explorer, Samsung Internet Browser or Chrome on IOS.

To watch a film, follow these steps:

1. Go to www.pathe-thuis.nl
   
2. Create a free account and log in
   
3. Select your film and pay
   
4. Start your film and watch via the browser or another device

 

Film and/or trailer does not start
Can you not watch a film via your laptop or PC or is it indicated that your browser is not suitable for playing films (error 5)? Please follow these steps:

1. Check if the film plays in another browser or in the mobile app.
   
2. Check if you have the latest version of the browser and if not, update the browser to the latest version.
   
3. Check if the DRM CDM is enabled in the browser settings. You can do so as follows:

Chrome:
Go to chrome://components and check if Widevine Content Decryption Module is present and does not need updates.

Firefox:
Go to Options/Preferences and check the checkbox ‘Play DRM-controlled content’ under the General tab. This must be checked to be able to play films.

Edge:
Go to settings/advanced settings and scroll to Privacy and Services. The following item must be checked: ‘Allow websites to store licenses for protected media on my device’.

Safari:
Playing protected content is enabled by default from version 11.1 (older versions do not work).

System requirements
Pathé Thuis works on the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7 or higher, or Apple Mac OS X 10.5 (Intel-based) or higher with a recent version of Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge.

Internet connection with at least 1 MB/s (8 mbit) download speed for HD and 500 KB/s (4 mbit) for SD is required.

 

Maximum playback quality in web browsers
The maximum playback quality depends on the browser. At the moment, the highest quality of films is played in Safari and some versions of Microsoft Edge (excluding Chromium based Edge). In addition, you can always play films in the highest quality on Smart TV, Playstation (3 & 4), Apple TV, Android TV and our mobile apps.

 

Support for Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer is no longer supported. It is not possible to play films in this browser. We recommend that you use another browser, such as Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge.
