The sound level in the auditorium is too loud, what can I do?

Last updated on 15 June 2025

If you are bothered by the sound level of the film, please speak to an employee in the cinema. The manager on duty can turn the sound down (a little).

If the film has already started and you do not want to miss anything, you can always report it via our SMS service (in this case send: '[city/location] [auditorium number] sound is too loud' to '3669') and someone will come to the auditorium as soon as possible.

More information about the sound level
The sound in our auditoriums comply with the rules set out in a covenant created, among others, by the Dutch Exhibitors Association(NVBF) and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.

The covenant stipulates that during children's films (films for visitors up to 12 years old, the children's matinees) the sound may not be louder than the weighted average, measured over a quarter of an hour, of 88 dB(A). In practice, the sound will be between 75 dB(A) and 80 dB(A).

For regular films, the sound must not be louder than the weighted average, measured over a quarter of an hour, of 92.5 dB(A). In practice, the sound will be between 80 dB(A) and 89 dB(A).

The use of hearing protection in de cinema is not necessary, but visitors are free to use their own hearing protection.

Every six months, our cinemas are inspected by an independent body that shares its findings with the Dutch Exhibitors Association(NVBF).
